How Our “Leaders” F–ked Up Haiti

What happened in Haiti was simply an act of God, or an act of Nature, right?

Sort of.

But not entirely. What our mass media isn't telling you is that some of our "leaders" helped create this appalling situation.

Yes, this is what the pundits always call politicizing a news story, and what our mass media generally decline to do.

I could and probably should go into more detail, but as Max Blumenthal has done such a good job of that already, I'll merely point you in his direction:

And can you believe Obama asked George W. to join in a bipartisan effort for Haitian relief? Really? After what happened (and is still happening in many respects) to New Orleans? Almost anyone, even John McCain, would have been a better choice. I guess in most ways Barack's just another politician, and the only reason I can continue to support him is that the alternatives all look to be much, much worse.

Well… heads up guys. Hope to be back in posting mode sometime soon. Have just been so busy lately… y'know?

You're pretty smart, Eli, and I have often enjoyed your too-few posts, but you're DEAD WRONG on this one.
Rush Limbaugh is a petty A-hole. Pat Robertson is a petty A-hole. But Obama is a pretty a-okay stand-up guy — most of the time.
It has almost become a tradition now to ask former presidents to pitch in in this kind of humanitarian effort, and it would have been petty if Obama had excluded Bush. And what ever you may think, Obama is not a petty man.

  • Elijah:

Whoa. Michael, I've never claimed to be infallible (unlike our last president and pretty much his entire administration), and I have to admit you are at least semi-right. Whether giving the brush off to a president whose administration was completely out-of-bounds in terms of the New Orleans debacle (and let's all try not to mention in terms of international and domestic law) would actually be petty, no doubt it would have seemed that way to some.

And as for Rush and Pat, spot on! Rush should split (and no, that's not a veiled reference to what happened near the end of Season Seven to Caleb, as tempting as such a veiled reference would be), and Pat — what?; if not for the Devil, the Haitians would still be good little slaves? — should just give it up and go check himself into an asylum already… or someone should do it for him.

  • Name(required):

not right to call this an act of god, eli
    that's robertson talk
but i'm sure you don't mean that

  • Elijah:

Mea Culpa again, Name(required) — hey, that's a really unusual name!!

It's just an old expression I grew up around. It is Robertson talk, and I probably should learn better.

    Thanx.

  • BobbieEvans:

I don't agree that this is "politisizing" — context matters!
and I was unaware of this.
    Thanks much for the post

  • MulhollandHighlander:

I have always been under the impression that all Americans — espesially Buffy fans, could not give a flying fluck about the history of the US and Haiti.
But I guess it is not all.
