Buffy vs Edward: Twilight Remixed — [original version]

Read my post on why I made this remix via WIMN:

http://www.wimnonline.org/WIMNsVoicesBlog/?p=1272

In this re-imagined narrative, Edward Cullen from the Twilight Series meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It’s an example of transformative storytelling serving as a pro-feminist visual critique of Edward’s character and generally creepy behavior. Seen through Buffy’s eyes, some of the more sexist gender roles and patriarchal Hollywood themes embedded in the Twilight saga are exposed – in hilarious ways. Ultimately this remix is about more than a decisive showdown between the slayer and the sparkly vampire. It also doubles as a metaphor for the ongoing battle between two opposing visions of gender roles in the 21ist century.

A Brief Political Rant as Interlude

I should be back to character relationships in BtVS sometime next week, but right about now I just have to vent a little:

The sheer idiocy and demagoguery that goes on in this country in the name of public service has become mind-numbing. It feels almost self-indulgent to be blogging about Buffy or anything else with all this very dangerous nonsense going on.

From defying and denying nearly all the best of modernism to a life-long extremist on the right shooting folks at a museum while a radio personality blames the left, to airheads all but accusing a TV late night talk show host outright of being a pedophile because of a bad joke, to blaming the physically fit for rising medical costs and sometimes even, seemingly, trying to trigger another Great Depression, some of our so-called "leaders" continue, ad nauseam — and it’s been for several years now — to look more and more like just a bunch of monsters who will try absolutely anything, no matter how stupid, destructive, ruthless, brainless, irrational, ignorant, or opportunistic in their misguided efforts to score a few political points for their party at the expense of this great nation that they so vehemently claim to love.

It’s been for a long while, and still is, so thoroughly disturbing that I guess I’d just stop paying attention to US national politics altogether except that I know that’s probably just exactly what these monsters want, i.e., for us all to get so disgusted with it that we all stop paying attention.

Liars and monsters and monstrous liars.

Between them, idiot wannabe despots "promoting" freedom and democracy, a family member with Parkinson’s, and all the nuts and flakes I try to do business with on the internet, sometimes it feels like the whole world has just gone crazy.

As Faith might say, it’s too bad we can’t just stake ‘em.

Hmm . . . we really can’t, can we?
