HC Conspiracy Theory – What Repubs Are Really Saying?

I’m not your usual conspiracy nut. I follow current events. I don’t assume everyone is corrupt and dishonest, and I try to use my analytical ability to determine what makes sense and what doesn’t — at least to me.

Nevertheless, I’ve recently concocted a little conspiracy theory of my own. To the extent this sounds paranoid, I hope you will forgive, and it is just a theory, so until the proof arrives (and hopefully doesn’t), I’ll be withholding my own judgment as to the nuttiness of it.

But with all that said, here’s the theory. Well, wait. Some background first.

Back when Ronald Reagan first ran for president, one of his most famous remarks was that ‘government didn’t solve problems. government was the problem.’ I don’t know if that’s verbatim, but that’s essentially what he said.

That was the beginning. From there, we were told by various other Republican and conservative operatives that the federal government was not the solution to much of anything, that the federal government just got in the way, that it was in all our interests to reduce and eliminate the federal government in all ways imaginable.

About 28 years later, under mostly Republican rule, what we had left of a federal government was a government that couldn’t respond competently to a terrorist warning, or a terrorist attack, that couldn’t wage a competent war, and that could do painfully little about poverty, the environment, education, health care and for those victimized by hurricanes — just to name a few. So, yeah, however many problems the federal government had or had not created prior to the Reagan revolution and subsequent Republican takeover, the federal government had definitely become little more than just a huge problem, just as the Republicans had said all along.

But then for a short time, we had Bill Clinton in office, right? What were we told then? That the better economy and lower crime rate had nothing to do with Clinton’s policies, that being president was essentially a job any plain ol’ common man could do better, and that Clinton wanted absolute power, wanted, in fact, to take our rights away from us and be a dictator.

After Clinton, we got George W. Bush. Hmm. And what was it he did? He spied on the American people without warrant (illegally and prior to the attacks of 911 by the way, which apparently a lot of Americans still don’t know), told some of the most consequential lies of any administration in recent memory, instituted directives and policies that led to torture and various other violations of international law, the uniform code of military justice, etc. He also said on more than one occasion how his job would be so much nicer if he were simply a dictator, while his legal team and apologists worked tirelessly to promote a theory of executive power that, unchallenged, would have all but made him that.

Is it just me, or does anybody else see a pattern here?

To sum up before explicitly stating the theory: the primary corporatists in this country are the Republicans; they have been for some time, the primary champions of all things related to big business; the Nazi’s of Germany were also corporatists, in fact, many of the justifications for what would later be termed ‘the holocaust’ were about the need for increased efficiency and productivity and the need to eliminate liabilities, i.e., corporate talk. As you may or may not know, old people, retarded people, sick people, the mentally ill, etc., were also worked to death and cooked in the ovens, not just Jews and Poles.

So, here’s the theory: when Republicans, or whatever these folks are, talk incessantly about Obama’s death panels, about euthanasia, about limiting health care so that the unproductive are left to die, or are put out on ice floes — what they really may be signaling is that if we do have health care reform, and if they come again into power anytime soon, this is actually what they would like to do, or plan to do, or will do.

Okay. Maybe this makes me a nut. I mean, after all, I’m a grown man who watches and even writes about Buffy the Vampire Slayer! And maybe the previous two examples are open to considerable interpretation and don’t exactly establish a pattern. So I readily admit this idea may be, well, just crazy. And my views don’t necessarily reflect those of my employer. But on the other hand, in an increasingly crazy world and in an increasingly crazy age of increasingly crazy, political and religious extremism, maybe one has to be a little bit crazy to have a clue. So, y’know, think about it. For whatever it’s worth.

And think about this while you’re at it: if we do achieve serious, significant health care reform at some point in Obama’s administration, are you going to want to put the Republicans in charge of it anytime soon?

I know I won’t.

James Marsters New Movie Coming to SyFy in August

Rumor has it that a film starring James Marsters, entitled High Plains Invaders, is being shot in Romania and is scheduled to air on SyFy on Sunday, August 30th.

Alien bugs and James Marsters! Cool. Funny thing about this is it’s supposed to be set back in the 1890’s in the Old West. The Western meets SyFy. More cool.

Let’s hope it happens. Mark your calendars.
