Buffy & Spike – LoveGame – Adults Only?

I don’t know what this says about me, but I enjoyed the music, I enjoyed the imagery, I just enjoyed it! But it’s kinda hot, so be sure to keep your toddlers away from this, as well as your monks, your priests, your puritans, your uptight relatives, your sexually repressed neighbors… well, you get the pic.

Mad TV – Buffy Parody

Came across this vid of a Buffy parody shown on Mad TV, starring Michelle Trachtenberg and Ms. Swan. Okay, it’s a little lame, okay, a lot, and an insult to one of the greatest shows of all time, but I guess Michelle thought we could take it. Hey, I have a sense of humor, and hey, okay, so it’s not all that funny. But I can take it, I can. We can, can’t we? It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t. We know Buffy still lives! And Buffy still rules! They can make all the fun they want, and it doesn’t diminish us or Buffy one tiny little bit. Yeah! That’s the ticket.

Michelle Trachtenberg in Dive from Clausen’s Pier

Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn in BtVS) will star in an original Lifetime movie, The Dive From Clausen’s Pier, due to air daytime, August 2nd.

Okay, so what’s it about? A young woman (Carrie) in love suffers a terrible tragedy — er, her fiancé suffers a terrible tragedy — er, well, they both do I suppose. Basically, Carrie has to choose whether to stay with her quadriplegic boyfriend or go on to build a new life for herself. Quite the dilemma.

It’s Michelle Trachtenberg, so how bad can it be? – and it also stars Firefly’s Sean Maher, and, well, being somewhat familiar with the book the movie’s based on, I’m not going to say much more.  It is Michelle Trachtenberg after all, but let’s all hope she doesn’t whine as much as the character, Carrie, seemed to do in the book. Didn’t we all see enough of that particular Trachtenberg talent already in Buffy?

I predict it won’t be to everyone’s taste, and if the movie treats the subject and characters very much like the book did, probably not to mine — but I’m sure for many, it will prove worth watching.

Veronika Decides to Die (2009)

Paulo Coelho’s parents committed him to mental hospitals three times when he was a young man, because he had the ambition to be an artist — a very unacceptable profession in Brazil at the time. He vowed he would one day write about those experiences, and he made good on that promise.

Now — or very soon at least — comes the movie.

And, as many already know, Sarah Michelle Gellar will be starring in it! — a new movie called Veronika Decides to Die, based on the best-selling book by Paulo Coelho of the same name. It’s about a young woman who seems to have it all, or at least all the trappings of the good life as our culture generally defines it, i.e., youth, beauty, boyfriends, a loving family, gainful employment, a great future, etc. Even so, she’s not very happy, and one winter morning she decides to end her life, taking an overdose of sleeping pills.

Her suicide attempt fails, but when she wakes up some time later in a psychiatric hospital, she is told her heart is irreparably damaged and she has only a few days left to live. This sparks a journey of the psyche in which she comes to question her assumptions about life and existence, and realizes she has allowed her life to be ruled by the constraints and expectations of social convention. As one of the book’s primary themes is that every moment of life is precious and can be special and purposeful if only we are simply aware enough to see it, the movie holds the promise of being inspirational — and perhaps even unforgettable — especially with Sarah Michelle Gellar in the lead role.

Also starring David Thewlis as Dr. Blake (an ambitious psychiatrist with a penchant for alternative methods) the film’s release is expected sometime in or around November.

It may not be Buffy, but I expect it will be very worthwhile.
